CEC Delays Benchmark Requirements For Buildings 5,000 – 10,000 Sqr. Ft.

CECOn Tuesday, the California Energy Commission voted to postpone the building benchmark report requirement for buildings 5,000 – 10,000 square feet until July 1, 2016. An energy use benchmark report is required to be generated anytime the entire building is sold, leased to a single tenant or is refinanced. The CEC regulation, created from Assembly Bill 1103 in 2007, took effect for buildings of that size range on July 1 of this year.

All commercial buildings 10,000 square feet or larger are still required to create an energy-use benchmark report, this delay does not affect these larger buildings.
